Books For Teens: If Nancy Drew Were Alive Today

Posted by on Jun 7, 2013 in Blog | 0 comments

Books for teens today have so many sub categories it can make your head spin!  I was in Barnes & Noble’s the other day and here is what I can REMEMBER of the vast identifiers that lined the shelves: teen fiction, teen romance, teen horror, teen sci-fi, teen vampire.  I mean REALLY?  Teen Vampire?  It is getting as tricky to pick out a book in a bookstore as is it choosing a greeting card in your local Hallmark Shop! I look back fondly, recalling when the telephone stayed glued to the wall in the kitchen; when playing outside...

Boston Marathon Bombings

Posted by on Apr 17, 2013 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

The Boston Marathon Bombings have left me with NO WORDS.  Wait, actually, I do have a few of them..hiding in the dark scary places where the Monster Under the Bed used to live.  I would say the same to the bomber as I would to the Monster…GO AWAY!  YOU ARE NOT INVITED AND IF IT IS SO BAD HERE THEN FRIGGING LEAVE! I am screaming only because I have NO WORDS.  Please forgive me. My prayers and thoughts are with the families of the slain and wounded; and the heroes who aided those, despite the dangers....

The Wizard of Oz; or is it Just a DUCK?

Posted by on Apr 11, 2013 in Blog | 0 comments

The Wizard of Oz; or is it Just A Duck? DUCK…DUCK…Downstairs; Underneath; Center of the House; Keep Away From Windows.  DUCK he says again and again.  This is great advice from my local weatherman during our recent tornado watch/warning…except that I REALLY just want my daughter to get home NOW!! AND did I say NOW?  I can’t POSSIBLY go Downstairs Under the Center of the Windowless room (assuming I even HAVE one of those!) unless and until she gets here!  She might prick her finger on a spinning needle, live with seven...

Segregated Proms in 2013: Is This For Real or Just Another Fiction Novel?

Posted by on Apr 10, 2013 in Blog | 0 comments

Segregated Proms in 2013.  REALLY?  This is the kind of stuff I cannot make up!  Wilcox County, located in the southern region of the State of Georgia, is the scene for this seemingly fiction novel story.  But it is actually and for really REAL!! It seems that the PARENTS have been responsible for the segregation of the proms.  To continue to allow this event into our current year of 2013 is clear child abuse!  It is! Look, as I understand the situation, it took students..YES, STUDENTS, to begin to move the rusty old wheel of oppression and...

Downton Abbey inspires New Fiction Novel

Posted by on Mar 31, 2013 in Blog | 2 comments

Downton Abbey inspires new fiction novel.  Well how do you like that?  It is genius!  Author Wendy Wax (“Single in Suberbia”, “Hostile Makeover”, and “Leave It To Cleavage”) has captured the essence of the PBS series and incorporated it in her ninth romantic comedy novel, “While We Were Watching Downton Abbey.”   As I understand it, Wax writes about three women who all watch Downton Abbey together.  Doesn’t sound exciting enough?  Well, apparently it’s in the troubles that these...

Move Over Teen Vampire Novels – The Vampire Facelift is Here!

Posted by on Mar 28, 2013 in Blog | 0 comments

I could NOT believe my ears!  The local news puts out a teaser, “The Vampire Facelift”. I look up with my now cold coffee mug in hand.  WAIT!  WHAT?  I was wondering if what I really needed was Juan Valdez and his mule to bring me an ultra-caffeinated hot cup of brew..STAT! Did I just hear that correctly?  So I do wait, like in a teenage fiction romance book, with baited breath, to see WHAT this was all about!!  It seems that the latest “beauty tip” is to inject…YES, inject– your own blood back into your...

How Soon is Too Soon to Marry?

Posted by on Mar 22, 2013 in Blog | 0 comments

How soon is too soon to marry? My Grandma, bless her in heaven, always told me, ‘You should always go through four full seasons with someone before you decide to marry.’ Well, she got divorced. Maybe Grandpa was just no darn good in winter? My husband and I were NEVER EVER EVER going to remarry after both of our failed first marriages. Until we met that is. And voilà, four, (yes count them, one, two three, four) short teeny tiny months later we were hitched. (I know what your thinking, but it most certainly wasn’t because we...
